Kate + Andrew | Pre Wedding Engagement Session | Wolf Lane Perth

Oh my goodness! I was so stoked when Kate + Andrew asked to have their pre wedding engagement session at Wolf Lane in Perth City. I’ve seen the glorious colourful wall all over Instagram and had been wanting to shoot there for ages. Plus a city backdrop always makes for stunning photos, it’s just so chic! I live about 40 minutes from the CBD, so I never really venture there unless I really have to. We’re total homebodies, so I feel very out of the loop when it comes to our City and new bars, restaurants and stuff like that. Hey, I’m a parent now, so I guess that’s ok? I really should make more effort to get out more. That’s why I love it when people suggest locations like Freo or the City! I often bring hubs and bubs and we go out for dinner afterwards, which is exactly what we did after Kate and Andrews shoot.

Enough about moi and more about this gorgeous couple. They were super cute and loved up. I’m super jealous because they’re getting married in NZ (which is SO DREAMY FOR PHOTOS!) Le sigh, whoever is photographing their wedding is one lucky duck. They were super loved up, in a kind of shy way – mega adorable. They also brought their gorgeous puppy along! We got lots of attention because it was around 5pm when all the city workers were making their way home.

GABI + CHRIS | VOW RENEWAL CEREMONY | LANCELIN DUNES

Gabi + Chris have been married for 10 years! TEN YEARS GUYS! And to celebrate this milestone, they decided to renew their vows at the Lancelin Dunes. Oh my goodness, I was so excited for this for a couple of reasons. Firstly, Gabi + Chris are one of the most down to earth, chilled out couples I’ve ever met, secondly, the dunes at Lancelin make for absolutely BREATHTAKING photos (even at 12pm when it’s the squinty eye time of the day) and lastly, because this was my first ever vow renewal ceremony, and I felt aboslutely honoured to be asked to capture this special day.

Being my first ever vow renewal ceremony, I didn’t really know what to expect. It was kind of like a wedding, but it was also TOTALLY different. It was way more low-key and relaxed, but it had all the same happy, excited, loved up vibes of a wedding. Could vow renewals be my new thing guys??? There was no strict time schedule, we just walked out to dunes, found a spot we liked and it was like “yep, this is perfect, let’s do it here” the ceremony was like a traditional wedding, minus all the legality and paperwork, it was just all the romantic parts, like the vows, the romantic stares and, of course, the kiss!

We had heaps of times for romantic snaps too! We got some great ones at the Dunes and then later in the day (at sunset) we went back to the beach for some more. It was awesome!

After the vow renewal ceremony, we went back to the airbnb and then speeches happened. It was a free-for-all anyone could speak their heart. I loved this, because people were sharing stories about Gabi + Chris from back in the day, and how they’ve enjoyed watching them grow and  mature as a couple and as a mother and father. That was the other thing, it was so special having their kids there to watch them recommit to each other – gah I just loved it.

Anyway, I have rambled on (like I always do!) here are some snaps from the gorgeous vow renewal ceremony. As always, I’d like to thank the gorgeous bride and groom for inviting me along to capture their special day. I never take these opportunities for granted and absolutely love my “job”

MEL + STEVE | PRE WEDDING ENGAGEMENT SESSION | SECRET GARDEN

When Mel responded to my typical “so what location did you have in mind for your engagement shoot” email with “how about the Secret Garden?” I nearly jumped out of my office chair with joy! I only found out about Perth’s Secret Garden earlier this year, and ever since I saw the photos I have been wanting to go there. Come to think of it, this year has really been a year of discovering amazing new locations in my hometown – haha! Anyway, we had to postpone the engagement shoot because it was raining, and the garden can get super muddy. Then the big day arrived, I always rock up to new locations super early. 1) because I hate being late, and I literally get anxiety thinking about the potential of getting lost, and having to call my client saying I’m running late as the sun is setting, no thanks! 2) because I LOVE to go exploring first, find the cool spots, see how the light is looking, and get my creative juices flowing. I also wear a fitbit, so any excuse for me to get my steps up is a win win!

Anyway, I arrived about an hour early, walked around a bit, found some amazing spots; when it started to drizzle. My stomach sank, I thought to myself, I better call Mel to let her know, so she has the option to reschedule or we can try our luck. Anyway, I called her, and turns out, her and her lovely fiancé Steve were literally parked next to me – ALL THE LOLS. So we decided to jump right in and go for it!!

Now, I’m not gonna like, when a client notices my custom “CRONJE” Nikes (that I wear to EVERY SINGLE SHOOT!) I know we’re going to gel! And the reason Mel noticed them, was that the Secret Garden was EXTREMELY MUDDY! hooley dooley, I was lucky to be in sneakers. Mel + Steve did amazing, trenching through the mud to get the perfect shot! (My Nikes ended up in the washing machine after, and now they’re cleaner than ever, thank goodness!).

Mel + Steve were (are? – I never know what tense to write these blog posts in!) such a cool couple!! Super natural in front of the camera, super in love with each other, they couldn’t stop making each other laugh, they were just as excited about the Garden as I was. The only negative was becuase we both got there so early, we started shooting early, which means we kinda finished early. But don’t worry, when I was in my car about to leave, and I saw that sun setting and coming through the trees, I was like “HELL NO AM I MISSING THIS” So I called Mel, and we did round two. Kudos to them, becuase I know how exhausting it is having to pose and smile in for a camera – it can be hard work. But I loved that they were game for it, and it was definitely worth it. I am so excited for their wedding coming up next Feb, it’s gonna be so dreamy! Especially because Mel + Steve are super laid back, which definitely helps on your big day!

BROOKE + KEITH | PRE WEDDING ENGAGEMENT SESSION | BELLS RAPIDS

Guess who got to go back to Bells Rapids for another engagement session. This chick! Twice in the same month, considering I’ve never been there in my life, I consider this a small miracle. Check out my last engagement session at Bells Rapids here.  That place is gorgeous and the photo opportunities are endless! This time we shot at a different part of the park, where the main rapids are, and where the gorgeous wooden bridge with rolling hills in the background are. I would be lying if I said I didn’t get giddy at all the different spots! Brooke and Keith were ideal engagement session clients! Keen to chase the light, laughing the whole time. Trying different poses, dancing, whispering, hugging, chatting.

Some people need a bit of direction when they’re getting their pics taken (and I totes get that, an engagement session can be mega awkward at first, and hey, that’s what I’m here for!) but Brooke and Keith were NATURALS. They couldn’t help but smile at each other, and naturally just hug and be close! It’s definitely dangerous for me when I shoot a couple like Brooke and Keith, because they’re such naturals in front of the camera, miss happy trigger over here goes nuts. And I end up creating a tonne of editing work for myself at the end. And then I can’t decide which picture is better so I just give them all! (I know, I’m terrible!) I’m a sucker for a pretty picture, at least I’m in the right job right?!

Enough about me and this dreamy engagement session, and more about Brooke and Keith. These two love birds met on Tinder, fast forward, and Keith is proposing to Brooke in the most romantic way possible. He hired one of those companies to set up a picnic for Brooke, and he said he was giving her a little gift, well while the gift may have been little, its significance was definitely not! Fast forward a little more, here they are getting their engagement photos taken, and planning their dream wedding next year in Yallingup – helloooooo even more beautiful pictures! I know it sounds so cheesy, but I honestly love hearing about peoples love stories, and I always feel so privileged when I get invited to be apart of their journey, I definitely do not take it for granted!

Congrats again Brooke + Keith!

TAMMIE + BRENDAN | PRE WEDDING PORTRAIT SESSION | BELLS RAPIDS

Engagement sessions are some of my favourites, partially because can find awesome locations that might be hard to do when it’s your wedding day, but also because we aren’t limited on time. I had such a blast photographing Tammie + Brendan’s engagement session. Even their gorgeous dog Spencer came along. These two love birds met outside The Garden in Leederville. Brendan proposed to Tammie in Northbridge at Midori Teppanyaki. He asked the chef to write in salt “Tammie will you marry me” and he got down on one knee holding the ring (super romantic, right?!). He even organised that all the fam bam get together at Tammies mums house so that they could all celebrate the wonderful news together.

We made the trek to Bells Rapids, and oh my goodness was it worth it. I can’t believe that I’ve lived in Perth all these years, and have never made it there! I will definitely be going back, that’s for sure. I love it when couples are keen to get adventurous when we’re shooting, and Tam + Brendan were just that! Keen to jump across the flowing river, using wobbly rocks, with the risk of slipping, all to get that perfect shot. And it was so worth it! We had the most beautiful sunset, Spencer was happy jumping around and exploring, even posing for the odd photo here and there.
